The difference between unit cell and primitive cell

Since the beginning of the crystal structure lectures, I have had difficulties to differentiate between the definition of unit cell and primitive lattice . However , I understand that unit cell is the smallest structure of the lattice which contains more than one lattice points and when it repeated over and over again it will build the lattice while the primitive cell is smaller than cell unit and contains no more than one point lattice

  1. This mean a primitive unite cell is the smallest possible unite cell, such as the simple cubic lattice, while the body centered cubic(BCC) and face centered cubic(FCC)lattices as i found in one website are simply unite cells(not primitive).

  2. Primitive cell contains lattice points only at their corners. Like a simple cube.
Unit cell contains lattice points not only at corners as well as in its centered if it is bcc or at faces if it is fcc or at up and down faces if it is base centered cube.
    Did this help you?

  3. Lattice point means the point where the atom or a part of atom is contributing iys part in a cell
